Spread the Bread

Cadette/Senior Girl ScoutTroop 30834 along with some friends spent Friday night earning the Spread the Bread Patch in Hermitage, PA until the wee hours of the morning. As part of exploring careers that take place during the third shift, they began their evening with Melissa from Auntie Anne's Pretzel's in the Shenango Valley Mall. They learned about the history of the pretzel, the founding and growth of Auntie Anne's Pretzel Company and of course, how to roll (and taste test) their famous soft pretzels. The Scouts then burned off some calories at Ten Pin Alley before moving onto Panera Bread. There, Liz and Darla explained all about the business end of making Panera bread such a successful restaurant. The Scouts made their own aprons before venturing into the kitchen to see the baker hard at work preparing pastries for the next day. They also made their own baguettes and custom decorated cookies. Finally they went across the street and had a late night snack at Eat n' Park. The most important lesson learned was how much food both Auntie Anne's and Panera's donate to local food banks. Thanks everyone for an educational and DELICIOUS night out!  submitted by Maureen, Leader Troop 30834
