Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

While volunteering at the Fredonia Area Recycling Center earlier this year, one of the Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 30094 noticed that the center needed a sign that could tell people when it would be open next to reduce confusion about the date.  So, as her Cadette "Breathe" Journey Take Action Project, she created a sign for the center.   Reusing an old board, old paint, an old garbage can, an old plastic tablecloth cover, and a plastic coffee can, this very creative Girl Scout made the sign, a cover for it, part of the changeable numbers for the sign, and a container to store them in.

To make the colorful numbers and letters for the sign, she enlisted the help of family members to help her to carefully cut aluminum cans.  Finally, the she assembled the sign using the only new items that were used for the project - cup hooks for the changeable numbers, and staples and silicon sealant to attach the numbers and letters.  The finished project was delivered to the recycling center over the weekend, where it was used for the first time!
