Thinking Day Event 2013 - Peru!

On Thursday, February 21st, over fifty Mercer Area Girl Scouts were at the Mercer United Methodist Church thinking about their fellow Girl Guides in Peru.  Thinking Day is an annual Girl Scout tradition to celebrate the Scouting movement all over the world.  This year the Scouts had a special guest tell them about life in Peru, a seventeen year old exchange student, Ferchi, shared pictures and stories of what it is like growing up in her home town of Ariquippa, Peru.  She also shared what it is like being in America for the first time.

To help the Scouts feel more international, Tanta Wawa (Peruvean Bread Babies) and a common trail mix shared by Scouts in Peru, were served as snacks on tables decorated with flags from all over the world.  The newest Scouts were presented their official WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girls Scouts) pins at the end of a ceremony celebrating this traditional Girl Scouting day.

To be a sister to every Girl Scout, the girls brought in pennies to be donated to those Scouts affected by Super Storm Sandy in New York and New Jersey.  Congratulations to Troop 30328 for winning a pizza party with the top donation of $21.50 of the total $49.46 collected that evening.  Finally, 75 boxes of pudding and jello were collected at the event for the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.  Thank you for to the scouts and leaders of Troop 30834 for helping to make yet another successful and FUN Thinking Day.
