On Tuesday, May 15, some local Girl Scouts presented Jennifer Ayers, the new Safe Kids Mercer County coordinator, with a check to Safe Kids for the agency to purchase new car seats for children who need them. The donation came from the additional proceeds that were collected at the Girl Scout's 100th Birthday Dance Party that was held at the Brandy Springs Community Center on March 11th, which was attended by over 150 Girl Scouts and leaders from Mercer county.

Cadette Troops Participate in Camp Work Weekends

Cadette Troops 30094 and 30834 spent the weekend helping out at the GSWPA Camp Work Weekends.

Troop 30094 has a whole new appreciation for the walkway to the pool and restrooms at Camp Singing Hills after spending the day edging, cleaning, filling the cracks in, and resurfacing it!

Troop 30834 spend the day raking leaves at the Bayberry unit and trails at Camp Elliott, and the evening completing their Amaze Journey Take Action Project with 30 girls, leading them in crafts and team-building activities with anti-bullying and "art of being cool" themes.

Off we go....

Girl Scouts visited the Youngstown Air Reserve Station on Thursday where they worked on the require- ments for the Air Force Pride IP from the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast.  In addition to watching two C-130 Hercules taxi and takeoff, the girls also got to tour one in a hanger at the base.  A huge thank you to Dale McGowan for hosting their visit!

Scratch and Sniff

You might think that the scouts who attended the "Scratch and Sniff" program over the weekend learned about sweet smelling stickers, but what they actually did was was learn how to program using Scratch, and how to help the environment.  The program was held Westminster College, in New Wilmington, and at Camp Elliott, in Volant, and and was presented by Kathy, David and Kate Shaffer.

Scratch was developed at MIT and is a programming language that makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art, and share them on the web.  At the program, the scouts used Scratch to make an animated aquarium and a target game.

While at Camp Elliott, the scouts learned how to make homemade cleaning products that are better for the environment, went on a hike on the fitness trail, shared articles they read about air and favorite scents, and much more as they worked on their Alert project for the Breathe Cadette Journey.  Give their cleaning products a try the next time you are at Wood's Edge Lodge!

Thank you to Westminster College for hosting the Scratch part of the program and for providing dinner for the girls.
